VeWorld is the latest desktop wallet developed by the vechain foundation. VeWorld is an browser extension for accessing Vechain enabled distributed applications, also known as "DApps", similar to metamask.

VeWorld also lets the user create and manage their own wallets (mnemonics & Ledger devices), accounts and tokens internally, without external DApps.

When a DApp wants to perform a transaction on the VeChain blockchain, it can send the request to the extension. The user can review, and optionally confirm or deny the request.

The extension is completely decentralized as the user can connect to any Vechain-compatible blockchain node of their choice. There is no backend service, so extension data is encrypted and stored locally using the user's passkey

If you are still using Sync or Sync 2, previous desktop wallets created by vechain, we recommend upgrading to VeWorld, since VeWorld will be upgraded regularly with new features that are missing from Sync and Sync 2.

If you prefer to continue to use Sync or Sync 2, thats fine. Both wallets are safe and secure and will continue to function untill further notice.

How to upgrade to VeWorld

Switching from Sync or Sync 2 to the new VeWorld wallet can be done by following the steps below.

1. Before we start make sure you have the recovery phrase (12 words) of your Sync (2) wallet, or your ledger hardware wallet, available.
2. Go to https://veworld.net
3. Click on Try Veworld to add it to your chrome browser.
4. From the extension menu in chrome, open the installed veworld extension.
5. Follow the setup steps.
6. At the end set a password. This password needs to be used to unlock the veworld extension the next time you open it.
7. After setting your password click on import wallet
8. In the next step:
   1. Select local wallet if you have a 12 word recovery phrase you want to import.
   2. Select hardware wallet if you have a ledger hardware wallet
9. Congrats that's it, you are now ready to use VeWorld and if you want you can uninstall your old wallet.

Your transaction history won't be visible when you move to VeWorld, however you can always view past transactions on the official blockchain explorer at https://explore.vechain.org
